Intermediate Civil / Structural Engineer

Remy Consulting Engineers Ltd. (RCEL), is looking for an Intermediate Civil / Structural Engineer for its expanding team of professionals in Burlington, Ontario. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of different projects and work closely with the principals at the firm. An Intermediate Structural Engineer performs various engineering assignments which requires a general familiarity with a broad field of engineering. Must be able to solve problems by use of combinations of industry standards and modified industry standard procedures, or methods developed in previous assignments. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. RESPONSIBILITIES: In this role, you'll: Manage structural design of multi-discipline projects from the proposal stage through to completion, including establishment and maintenance of budgets and schedules; Provide structural design of small to large commercial, industrial and multi-residential projects; Preparation and/or verification of design drawings and calculations; Working in a team environment with our other structural department personnel, management and administrative staff, you will prepare tender and construction documents or reports; Working on a variety of small to large projects using various materials; Ability to interact with a wide variety of clients from Architects, owners, and developers; Knowledge of structural design software such as STAAD, RAM, SAP2000, SAFE and ETABS; Ability to investigate construction related issues for new and existing structures; Preparation and review of technical reports; Mentoring, coaching and training of less experienced professionals as required; QUALIFICATIONS: Demonstrated skill with the structural analysis of buildings and foundations; Demonstrated skill with the design of concrete, steel, and timber structures; Working knowledge of the requirements of the National Building Code of Canada NBCC, and Ontario Building Code OBC. Working knowledge of the requirements of CSA Standard A23.1, and concrete and concrete materials test methods of CSA Standard A23.2 as well as ASTM and ACI committee documents; Working knowledge of the requirements of CSA S16 Design of Steel Structures; Preference to experience using either CSA O86 Engineering Design in Wood, including tall timber, as well as CSA S304 Design of Masonry Structures would be an asset; A self-starter who is innovative and enjoys working in a team environment; Availability to periodically travel to project sites on an as required basis for 1/2 day or 1-day site visits, typically for data collection, review of construction or attendance at coordination or design review meetings; Ability to adapt to and meet the challenges of a variety of different projects from clients in many different industries; Proficient at AutoCAD, is required; Proficiency in BlueBeam, an asset; Proficiency in MS Word, Excel required; Positive team player; Self-motivated, detail oriented and client focused; Ability to prioritize tasks, met deadlines and work collaboratively on multiple projects at once; Excellent verbal and written communication skills; Must have a valid driver's license. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Structural/Civil Engineering from an accredited university. Minimum of 5 - 10 years of experience in contracting/consulting within a buildings Structural team. Experienced with the use of the either the National or Ontario Building Code. Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential; Licenced with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO). Senior and Junior Inspectors

Senior Inspectors wanted for Ministry of Transportation, Ontario and Municipal Construction Contract Administration Assignments. Primary Responsibilities: In the role of Senior Construction Inspector, we'll count on you to: Provide inspection and oversight of complex bridge, roadway and highway construction projects; Maintain accurate daily diary entries and completion of contract documentation records; Maintain daily photographic records, and videos as necessary to document contract activities; Complete site surveys of completed works for tracking item and material quantities for payment; Utilize Web-Based Contract Management System (WBCMS) on Ministry contracts; Complete daily inspections in accordance to client requirements; Monitoring construction work is in accordance with contract documents and specifications; Monitoring the contractor’s compliance to health and safety, and environmental regulations and legislation; Supervise and implement quality assurance acceptance and inspection of construction works; Report to the Project Manager and Contract Administrator onsite activities, concerns, and non- conformances, and provide recommendations for resolution; Provide mentorship to junior staff; Review and document implementation of traffic closures in accordance to contract documents; Liaise with client representatives, as required; Requires working nights, weekends, and extended shifts; Work may be seasonal in nature, as work permits; Other duties may be assigned. Qualifications Applicants must meet the following Qualification Requirements: OACETT Certified RCCA, RCSI, RCJI Road Construction Designation or licenced P. Eng. or E.I.T. Senior Inspectors must have 2 or more MTO or Municipal equivalent projects valued at $5,000,000.00 or more. Valid Class G Driver’s License and have access to a vehicle.
